Lahore Enforces Helmet Rule for Entry in Universities and Colleges
AI System Issues Thousands of Fines for Helmet Violations
A ban on entering universities and colleges without a helmet has been enforced in Lahore, the provincial capital.
The Higher Education Department has launched a special campaign promoting helmet use for motorcycle riders.
A formal notice has been sent to university registrars and college principals, making it compulsory for both teachers and students riding motorcycles to wear helmets. Entry to any educational institution without a helmet is now prohibited.
Additionally, motorcyclists without helmets will not be permitted to park their bikes within university or college premises.
This decision follows a rise in traffic accidents and fatalities, according to the Higher Education Department.
**AI to Fine Rule Breakers**
An AI-powered system is now being used to issue e-challans to citizens, including police officers, for not wearing helmets in Lahore.
The AI system monitors motorcycle riders at model roads and city entry and exit points, where helmetless entry has been restricted.
Chief Traffic Officer Lahore, Ammara Athar, revealed that 227,761 e-challans have been issued through this system for helmet violations. In addition, manual methods have resulted in 300,100 challans being issued.
Entry to traffic offices without a helmet has also been banned.
