Khalistan Referendum’s Second Phase Concludes in California

Sikhs for Justice Organizes Voting with Strong Turnout; Next Phase Set for Calgary, Canada.

CALIFORNIA: The second phase of the referendum for the establishment of Khalistan has concluded in the American state of California, with a significant turnout of Sikh voters. A total of 200,000 Sikhs participated in the voting process, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing movement.

Organised under the banner of Sikhs for Justice, the referendum saw 127,000 votes cast in the initial phase, followed by 60,000 in the subsequent phase. Security measures were tight, with American police and snipers deployed to safeguard the participants.

The timing of the first phase of voting was particularly poignant, occurring shortly after the assassination of Khalistan Movement leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. However, logistical constraints meant that several thousand Sikhs were unable to cast their votes, prompting a supplementary voting opportunity on March 31.

The same day also witnessed a stirring display of Sikh unity, with 20,000 individuals queuing up to speak up on their opinion on a separate state. Throughout the day, chants of anti-India slogans reverberated across the voting centre, named after Shaheed Jathe Dar Kanke in honour of the late Khalistan activist.

Reflecting on the significance of the occasion, Council General of SFJ Gurpatwant Singh Pannu paid homage to Shaheed Kanke’s unwavering commitment to Sikh self-determination. He reiterated the movement’s stance, advocating for a democratic transition and expressing a desire for the political demise of Narendra Modi.

Accusations against India were not spared, with Gurpatwant Singh Pannu alleging ongoing Sikh genocide perpetrated by the Indian government, a grievance echoing from the days of the Congress era. Determined to pursue freedom from India, he pledged that Sikhs would spare no effort in their pursuit of sovereignty.

Looking ahead, the Punjab Referendum Commission has outlined plans for the next phase of the referendum, scheduled to take place on July 28 in Calgary, Canada.
