India Adds Varun Chakravarthy to ODI Squad for Champions Trophy

Ashwin Backs Varun Chakravarthy for Champions Trophy Spot

NEW DELHI: India has included mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy in their squad for the upcoming ODI series against England, as they prepare for the Champions Trophy 2025. Chakravarthy, who was the leading wicket-taker for India in the IND vs ENG T20I series with 14 wickets at an impressive average of 9.8, will join the squad in Nagpur to train ahead of the first ODI on February 6.

The decision follows growing calls from cricket experts and former players, including former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who supported Chakravarthy’s inclusion. Ashwin expressed confidence that Chakravarthy might be included in the Champions Trophy squad, acknowledging his recent success in the T20I series.

With Chakravarthy’s addition, India now has five spinners in their ODI squad, including Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to finalize four spinners for the Champions Trophy, with the deadline for submitting final squads set for February 11.
