Multinational Exercise AMAN-25 Kicks Off in Karachi
Pakistan Navy hosts 9th edition of AMAN exercise, promoting maritime security and cooperation among 60 nations.

KARACHI: A media briefing for the multinational Maritime Exercise AMAN-25 was held in Karachi, offering key insights into the upcoming event. The briefing was led by Rear Admiral Abdul Munib, Commander Pakistan Fleet, who provided details about Exercise AMAN and the inaugural AMAN Dialogue, both scheduled to take place from February 7-11, 2025.
In his address, Rear Admiral Munib emphasized the growing importance of global maritime security, particularly as the world’s focus shifts from geopolitics to geo-economics. He highlighted that the security of sea-borne trade routes and energy corridors has become a priority amidst the evolving threats in the Indian Ocean Region. These challenges, ranging from traditional security issues to non-traditional risks, have expanded the scope of maritime security, urging nations to adapt their strategies.
Rear Admiral Munib stressed that maritime challenges are too complex for any single nation to address alone. To combat these threats, Pakistan Navy launched the biennial Multinational Exercise AMAN in 2007, under the banner “Together for Peace.” The exercise aims to unite maritime nations in adopting safe and sustainable practices, sharing experiences, and collectively tackling maritime risks.
This year marks the ninth edition of Exercise AMAN, with over 60 countries set to participate, including naval ships, aircraft, special operations forces, and marine teams. The event will be divided into two phases: Harbour and Sea. The Harbour Phase (7-9 February) will feature seminars, operational discussions, professional demonstrations, and international gatherings, while the Sea Phase (10-11 February) will include tactical maneuvers, counterterrorism exercises, search and rescue drills, and live firing operations. A key highlight of the Sea Phase will be the International Fleet Review, which will be attended by both foreign and Pakistani dignitaries.

The exercise’s growing international participation underscores global confidence in Pakistan Navy’s pivotal role in enhancing maritime security. This year’s edition also introduces the AMAN Dialogue, a new platform designed to bring together Chiefs of Navies, Coast Guards, and Defence Forces to discuss shared maritime concerns. The dialogue will serve as an intellectual and practical forum for addressing global and regional maritime challenges.
Rear Admiral Munib concluded by stating that Exercise AMAN 2025 will significantly bolster maritime security and further solidify Pakistan’s role as a vital maritime player, contributing to both regional and global peace, as well as safeguarding key economic interests and Sea Lines of Communication.
