Imran Khan & Bushra Bibi sentenced to 7 years in ‘un-Islamic nikah’ case

RAWALPINDI – Former Prime Minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, along with his wife Bushra Bibi, has been sentenced to seven years in prison in the case of an illegal marriage.
According to private TV channels, the decision was announced by Special Judge Qadratullah yesterday, and a fine of Rs. 5, 5 lakh has also been imposed on the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi.
It may be recalled that yesterday, the case of the illegal marriage of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi was decided after a 14-hour long hearing.
Background:
On November 25, 2023, Bushra Bibi’s former husband Khawar Manika approached the Islamabad High Court and filed a case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi for their illegal marriage during ‘Iddah’.
In the application, it was claimed that during the ‘Iddah’ period, both had remarried in February 2018 through Mufti Saeed.
Khawar Manika requested the court to order Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to be summoned and to impose strict penalties on them under the law and the Constitution.
On November 28, the hearing was held, during which Mufti Saeed and Awn Chaudhry recorded their statements.
On December 5, the domestic employee of Khawar Manika and the witness of the case, Muhammad Latif, also recorded his statement.
On December 11, the court declared the illegal marriage case admissible.
On January 2, 2024, the Islamabad local court set January 10 as the date for filing charges in the illegal marriage case.
The charges could not be filed on January 10 and then on January 11, after which the hearing was postponed.
On January 15, Bushra Bibi and on January 18, Imran Khan filed an appeal in the Islamabad High Court against the illegal marriage case.

However, on January 16, charges were filed against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the illegal marriage case.
On January 31, the Islamabad High Court rejected the requests of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi to dismiss the case of marriage during ‘Iddah’.
Yesterday, on February 2, the decision in the case of an illegal marriage against Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi was announced after a 14-hour long hearing.
