High-Level Delegation Approved for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s Case
Court Informed of Plan, Medical Check-Up Request, and Possible Prisoner Transfer Agreement
Islamabad-(Mudassar Iqbal): In a recent session on Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui’s petition for the recovery and repatriation of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, the Islamabad High Court was informed of the government’s plan to dispatch a delegation to the United States.
This update was provided by the Additional Attorney General, who highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s case. The delegation will be comprised of a diverse group, including current and former parliamentarians, senators, active and retired military personnel, medical professionals, and Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui herself. Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented a proposal for a Prisoner Transfer Agreement with the U.S., which was reviewed in court.
Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative about the timeline for a response on the Prisoner Transfer Agreement. The representative responded that a decision is expected soon.
Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui has also requested that Dr. Aafia Siddiqui undergo a medical examination. Zainab Janjua, an assistant to the court, mentioned that the Prime Minister has approved the delegation’s visit to the U.S. Furthermore, Dr. Fawzia and her family have requested that Pakistani medical professionals be involved in Aafia Siddiqui’s care.
The Islamabad High Court has postponed further proceedings.
