EU Ambassador Discusses Strengthening Business Ties with Commerce Minister

Minister Kamal Khan Welcomes EU's Economic Cooperation Initiatives

ISLAMABAD: The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Riina Kionka, met with Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, to discuss the enhancement of bilateral trade relations and upcoming business opportunities between the EU and Pakistan.

During the meeting, Dr. Kionka extended an invitation to the Commerce Minister to deliver the closing remarks at the European Union-Pakistan Business Forum (EU-PKBF), which is set to take place on May 14-15, 2025, in Islamabad. The forum aims to facilitate high-level dialogue and strengthen business partnerships, focusing on key sectors such as agribusiness, IT, machinery, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and green infrastructure.

One of the significant topics discussed was the launch of the EU-Pakistan Business Network (EUPBN), which will be introduced during the forum. The network, consisting of more than 300 EU companies operating in Pakistan, will serve as a collective voice for European businesses, fostering deeper investment and trade relations.

Minister Kamal Khan welcomed the initiatives, recognizing the EU’s vital role in promoting economic cooperation. He emphasized that the increasing engagement between Pakistan and the EU will provide new opportunities for investment and strengthen the business landscape in both regions.

The EU remains Pakistan’s second-largest trading partner and primary export destination, with €12 billion in bilateral trade recorded in 2024. The EU-Pakistan Business Forum is expected to further enhance the economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
