KARACHI – Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday forwarded a summary to the governor for dissolution of the provincial assembly.
Consultations between the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and opposition parties over the appointment of a caretaker chief minister are already underway.
Earlier, addressing the last session of the Sindh Assembly, the CM said, “I congratulate all over successful completion of five years tenure. These five years were not easy.”
The Sindh chief minister said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto asked him to contest elections in 2002 and he was elected as the chief minister for four times since then. Sindh Assembly, he said, was a historical house and it was barred several times from functioning.
He said that the Sindh Assembly speaker was sent to jail and there had been many hurdles in its way. The CM regretted that over 2.1 million houses were damaged in the floods while 20,000 schools lost their basic structures. He added that the Sindh was subjected to destabilisation and many cases were registered during this tenure.
Shah also stated that a big case was lodged against him, so that he would be arrested, adding that the Sindh Assembly speaker was still coming from the jail to preside over the house proceedings.
During the Covid-19, the strict measures were adopted by the Sindh government, he said, adding that the hospitals were set up for treatment of several diseases in the record short time.
“Our performance was better from many developed countries during the Covid-19,” he added.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Ghulam Ali on Friday accepted the resignations of the caretaker ministers, advisors and dissolved the provincial cabinet.
Following a summary forwarded by Caretaker Chief Minister Mohammad Azam Khan, the governor dissolved the cabinet.
The chief secretary will shortly issue a notification approving the dissolution of the caretaker cabinet.
Azam Khan had received resignations of 25 cabinet members, prompting him to forward a summary to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor which he did. The governor dissolved the cabinet forthwith.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s interim Information Minister Feroze Jamal announced on Thursday that 19 members of the interim cabinet in the province, including himself, had tendered their resignations to the interim Chief Minister Azam Khan.
This step was taken in accordance with the directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
In response to a letter written by Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, the PTI KP chief, and signed by 52 ex-Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs), the ECP had instructed the caretaker chief minister last month to promptly remove ministers, advisers, and special assistants involved in political activities.
The objective was to ensure a fair and unbiased electoral process in the province ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Jamal conveyed that the chief minister informed them about the ECP’s mandate to form a new interim cabinet devoid of political affiliations. Consequently, he and 18 other members submitted their resignations. Others who were not present in Peshawar would also resign upon their return, and if they couldn’t, they would be officially removed the following day.
Since January, a caretaker government has been in power in KP after the PTI chairman had pledged to dissociate from the prevailing corrupt political system by resigning from assemblies where his party held influence.
