China’s Space Journey: From Shenzhou-1 to Shenzhou-19
Out of 14 missions, eight have been dedicated to visiting the country's independently built space station
Tiangong -(Special Correspondent): China is set to launch three astronauts into low-Earth orbit on Wednesday as part of its 14th crewed space mission, which will involve numerous scientific experiments.
Out of the 14 crewed missions, eight have been dedicated to visits to China’s independently constructed space station, Tiangong, known as the “Celestial Palace” in Chinese.
The upcoming Shenzhou-19 mission will be commanded by Cai Xuzhe, who previously participated in the Shenzhou-14 mission in June 2022. The two other crew members, Song Lingdong and Wang Haoze, are both born in 1990 and will be embarking on their first space mission.
Wang Haoze is notable for being China’s only female spaceflight engineer, making her the third Chinese woman to travel to space. Previously, Liu Yang and Wang Yaping participated in two earlier Shenzhou missions.
China’s journey into space began with the launch of its first uncrewed spacecraft, Shenzhou-1, in November 1999, followed by three more unmanned flights before Yang Liwei became the first Chinese citizen to enter space aboard Shenzhou-5.
