Champions Trophy: Pakistan Explores India-Less Option
Pakistan Considers Minus-India Formula for Champions Trophy Amid Travel Dispute
Lahore-(Tahir Chuhdary)-The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is contemplating a bold move for the upcoming Champions Trophy, proposing a “minus-India” formula due to India’s persistent reluctance to travel to Pakistan for the tournament.
The PCB plans to present this proposal to the International Cricket Council (ICC), seeking a potential solution to the ongoing travel dispute. However, key government personalities may still extend an invitation to India to participate in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, potentially resolving the issue.
Ultimately, the ICC will make the final call on the matter, determining the fate of Pakistan’s proposal and the tournament’s format.
This move underscores the complexities surrounding international cricket tournaments, where political tensions and travel restrictions can significantly impact the sport. The outcome of the PCB’s proposal will be closely watched, as it may set a precedent for future tournaments.
Meanwhile, it had been reported that the ICC had informed the PCB that the Indians were not willing to travel to Pakistan for the mega event.
The PCB had also informed the incumbent government about India’s decision of not traveling to Pakistan.
It is expected that the Pakistani government will take strict action against India’s decision of not visiting Pakistan.Unless the ties with India get normalized, Pakistan will not play against them in any tournament,” said the sources.
