PM Shehbaz Sharif Directs Expedited Privatisation of State-Owned Enterprises

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the swift completion of the privatisation process for state-owned enterprises (SOEs) within the stipulated timeframe. During a review meeting on Monday, he emphasized the importance of the SOE privatisation initiative as part of the government’s Uraan Pakistan economic reform program.

The Prime Minister stressed that the government should not engage in business but should instead focus on creating conducive policy measures and facilities for business and investment. He expressed his determination to prevent further losses in SOEs, which are draining valuable resources.

The meeting reviewed the task management system set up for privatisation monitoring and progress. PM Shehbaz urged the acceleration of the privatisation process without compromising transparency, and instructed the hiring of reputable lawyers to eliminate legal barriers.

The privatisation plan for federal institutions is divided into three phases: the first phase will privatise 10 institutions, the second will include 13, and the third phase will ensure the remaining institutions are privatised.

Federal Ministers Abdul Aleem Khan, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Ahad Khan Cheema, and senior officials attended the meeting, where the timeline for completing the privatisation process was also discussed.
