Over 100 Pakistani traders stuck in China

ISLAMABAD: Over 100 Pakistani traders and their vehicles are stranded in China due to the closure of the Pakistan-China border.

Despite efforts to build an all-season border, it has proved unsuccessful. Border passes for the stranded traders expired yesterday.

The Khunjerab Pass, located at an altitude of 15,000 feet on the Karakoram Highway, is blocked by snow, severely hampering the movement of vehicles.

While China has announced plans to keep the Pakistan-China border open year-round, the lack of snow clearing and other necessary facilities on the Pakistani side of the Karakoram Highway hampers it during the winter.
