147th Birth Anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal Celebrated Across Pakistan

Honoring the Poet of the East and Philosopher of the Nation

Today marks the 147th birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the esteemed philosopher, poet, and visionary who is considered the intellectual architect of Pakistan. Celebrations are taking place across the nation to honor his legacy.

Born on November 9, 1877, in Sialkot, Iqbal received his early education in Sialkot and Lahore. He furthered his studies in the UK, where he earned a law degree in 1905, followed by a Ph.D. in philosophy from Germany.

Upon his return to India in 1910, Iqbal used his poetry as a powerful tool to galvanize and unite the scattered Muslim community, inspiring them politically and intellectually.

Iqbal is renowned for developing the Pakistan Ideology, which played a pivotal role in the creation of Pakistan. His poetry aimed to uplift the Muslim youth, whom he often referred to as “Shaheen” (Eagle) and “Aqab” (Falcon), urging them to rise above challenges and achieve greatness.

Among his most famous works are Bang-e-Dara, Zaboor-e-Ajam, Bal-e-Jibril, Zarb-e-Kaleem, Javed Nama, and Payam-e-Mashriq.

Known as the artist of Pakistan, Allama Iqbal passed away on April 21, 1938, in Lahore and is buried near the historic Badshahi Mosque.
