UAE to Host 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup After ICC Relocation

ICC Expresses Regret Over Relocating Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 from Bangladesh to UAE

The ICC has officially relocated the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 from Bangladesh to the UAE due to ongoing unrest in Bangladesh.

The tournament, originally set to take place in Bangladesh, will now be held in the UAE from October 3 to October 20, 2024. This decision follows travel advisories issued by several countries, including Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand, cautioning against travel to Bangladesh due to the current situation.

While the ICC expressed regret over not being able to host the event in Bangladesh, ensuring the safety and security of players and staff was the top priority. ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardyce expressed disappointment over the relocation, stating, “It’s a disappointment not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, but given the circumstances, we had no other choice. I would like to thank the Bangladesh Cricket Board for their efforts and the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in.”

Despite the venue change, Bangladesh will remain a co-host alongside the UAE. The tournament will be held in prominent stadiums in Dubai and Sharjah, ensuring smooth operations.

The recent unrest in Bangladesh has included significant student protests and the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, with an interim government led by Dr. Yunus currently in place. The ICC remains hopeful of returning future events to Bangladesh once the situation stabilizes and reaffirms its commitment to the country’s cricketing future.
