Trump Threatens Tariffs on Mexico and China to Curb Fentanyl Flow
Republican Candidate Promises 25% Tariff on Imports if Drug Trafficking into the US Continues
US-(Special Correspondent): Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump warned on Monday that, if elected, he would impose tariffs on Mexico and China unless both governments took action to stop the flow of fentanyl into the United States.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Trump vowed swift action against drug trafficking at the southern US border, emphasizing his intention to use tariffs as leverage.
“We will immediately stop the drugs pouring across our border,” he asserted.
Trump proposed a 25% tariff on Mexican goods and indicated he would apply “the same thing to China” for sending fentanyl to Mexico.
“Every single product they sell into the United States will face a 25% tariff until they halt the drug influx. And let me tell you, the drugs will stop so fast, it’ll make your head spin,” Trump said.
At the rally, Trump also reiterated his commitment to large-scale deportations of migrants from the United States if he wins the election on Tuesday.
