ISLAMABAD (Mudassar Chaudhary): Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, visited multiple development sites across the city on Saturday, including the CDA Model Nursery on Park Road, Saidpur Village, and Melody Food Street. He was accompanied by Member Environment Esfandyar Baloch, architects and horticulture experts from the Baku team, DG Environment, and other relevant officials.
During the visit to the CDA Model Nursery, Chairman Randhawa was briefed on the ongoing transformation of the facility into a “Gardenia Hub,” a state-of-the-art horticultural center. The Baku team’s architects and experts outlined the vision for the upgraded nursery, which will feature flower shops, a training and research center, and advanced greenhouses with controlled ventilation systems to promote optimal plant growth and facilitate scientific research.
He was also informed about the development of a modern tissue culture center, which will use advanced propagation techniques to introduce new plant varieties. The Chairman emphasized the need for specialized training of nursery staff to ensure the smooth functioning and maintenance of this world-class facility.
“The upgraded nursery will serve as a horticultural landmark and meet the growing needs of Islamabad’s residents,” Randhawa stated. “We aim to make Islamabad a key hub for horticulture in the region.”
The Chairman also announced plans for the launch of a dedicated mobile app, enabling cashless, online purchases of plants. A designated display area for seasonal and year-round flowers is also part of the design, further enhancing the city’s green profile.
He praised the Baku team’s involvement and directed the CDA team to complete the Gardenia Hub project swiftly and in line with global standards. He added that the project would not only improve Islamabad’s aesthetics but also generate employment opportunities in the horticulture sector.
Following the nursery visit, Chairman Randhawa toured the Saidpur Model Village to inspect ongoing uplift and beautification works. He expressed confidence that the project would turn the village into a top-tier tourist destination. He emphasized the importance of timely completion and allocation of adequate resources.
The Chairman also visited Melody Food Street, where he ordered acceleration of renovation, uplift, and routine maintenance to improve visitor experience.
