President Asif Ali Zardari Meets Zhao Leji in China to Strengthen Pak-China Ties

Discussions on Advancing CPEC’s Second Phase and Strengthening Cooperation

Beijing – President Asif Ali Zardari, during his five-day visit to China, met with Zhao Leji, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, reaffirming the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China and underscoring their mutual cooperation.

The high-level meeting emphasized enhancing economic ties and strengthening strategic mutual trust, which both leaders identified as the foundation of the Pak-China relationship. They highlighted the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a key example of development focused on mutual prosperity.

An official statement noted that discussions centered on the high-quality development of the second phase of CPEC, with a special focus on advancing collaboration in science and technology, renewable energy, infrastructure, and agriculture. Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining continuous high-level exchanges to further enhance practical cooperation.

President Zardari reaffirmed the “evergreen” friendship between the two nations, stressing that their ties have grown stronger and more extensive over the decades. He reiterated that strategic trust is the cornerstone of their bilateral relations.

In addition to his official meetings, President Zardari paid a visit to the Monument to China’s National Heroes in Beijing, where he laid flowers and paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Chinese heroes who gave their lives for their country.

Accompanying President Zardari was a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and Sindh ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Nasir Hussain Shah, and Dr. Asim Hussain.
