Power Crisis Worsens as National Electricity Shortfall Hits 6,419 MW

Government thermal power plants are producing 657 MW, private sector plants add 7,565 MW, and wind power plants generate 1,206 MW.

ISLAMABAD: Despite the sweltering summer heat, load shedding continues nationwide, with the electricity shortfall soaring to 6,419 MW.

Sources report that the national demand for electricity stands at 25,500 MW, while production lags at 19,081 MW. Hydropower contributes 6,095 MW to the total.

Government thermal power plants are producing 657 MW, private sector plants add 7,565 MW, and wind power plants generate 1,206 MW. Solar power plants contribute 198 MW, bagasse power plants 141 MW, and nuclear power plants 3,222 MW.

Currently, scheduled load shedding spans 6 hours across the country, with areas suffering line losses enduring up to 12 to 14 hours of outages.

In Lahore, the situation is exacerbated by frequent transformer failures and technical faults, leading to power outages lasting 8 to 10 hours. Sources reveal that dozens of transformers are burning daily due to the extreme heat, severely delaying power restoration.
