Kishanganga Dam Dispute to Be Revisited in August 2025: Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement regarding Gaza, deeming it unjust and reaffirming its steadfast position in support of the Palestinian people. In a weekly briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan reiterated that Pakistan’s stance on the Palestine issue has remained clear and unchanged since 1947.

Khan described Trump’s statement, which suggested the displacement of Palestinians from their land, as unfair and one-sided. He emphasized that Pakistan stands firmly with the Palestinian people and condemned Israel’s violations of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Pakistan also called on the international community to take effective action to halt these violations.

On Bilawal Bhutto’s U.S. Visit

The spokesperson was also asked about the schedule of former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s visit to the United States. He stated that the Foreign Office had no information regarding his itinerary or a potential meeting with the U.S. President, clarifying that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would be the appropriate authority to address any details regarding the visit.

Afghan Refugees’ Return and Security Issues

On the issue of Afghan refugees, Khan referred to the return of illegal Afghan nationals as a legal process, with Pakistan maintaining communication with the relevant countries. He also referenced the findings of the SIGAR (Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction) report, which supports Pakistan’s position that the Afghan government should take action against terrorist groups operating from its soil.

Regarding the reopening of Guantanamo Bay, the spokesperson clarified that this matter was not part of Pakistan’s ongoing discussions with the U.S. In connection with the recent attack on the Pakistani Embassy in Germany, Khan assured that the Pakistani government is in continuous contact with German authorities.

Turkey’s President to Visit Pakistan Soon

Khan provided updates on the visit of Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Pakistan, stating that preparations for the trip are in the final stages. The details of the visit will be announced soon.

Pakistan’s Stance on Kashmir and Dr. Aafia Siddiqui

The spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering position on Kashmir, emphasizing that the country will not compromise on its commitment to the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and the principle that “Kashmir will become Pakistan.”

On the case of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, Khan mentioned that her appeal for clemency submitted to former U.S. President Biden had been rejected, and the U.S. Department of Justice has closed the case. However, he noted that Dr. Siddiqui can file a new clemency petition through her legal team in the future.

Kishanganga Dam Dispute to Be Resolved in 2025

Regarding the Kishanganga Dam issue, Khan stated that the matter of neutral experts concerning the dam projects would be revisited in August 2025. Pakistan is committed to protecting its water rights and will continue to take necessary measures to safeguard its interests in the matter.
