Pakistan Raises Security Concerns at UN, Urges Global Action Against Terrorism

Pakistan Urges Afghanistan to Prevent Cross-Border Terrorism

NEW YORK– Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram, has called for greater global attention to the security threats faced by Pakistan, questioning why discussions on terrorism often overlook these dangers.

Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting, Akram urged the UN General Assembly to establish a dedicated institution to combat terrorism more effectively. He specifically highlighted the threat posed by banned militant groups like Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Majeed Brigade, emphasizing that terrorist activities from Afghan soil remain a major security concern for Pakistan.

Akram reiterated that Afghanistan’s interim government must prevent its territory from being used for attacks against Pakistan. He also presented evidence of Afghan nationals involved in terrorist activities within Pakistan. Recently, a terrorist killed in Datta Khel, North Waziristan, was identified as an Afghan citizen, Luqman Khan alias Nusrat, a resident of Khost province. The Pakistan Army confirmed that steps are being taken to return his body to Afghan authorities.
