Pakistan and UAE Sign MoU to Boost Governance and Development Cooperation

Shehbaz Sharif Highlights UAE’s Role in Governance and Regional Peace

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has expressed Pakistan’s keen interest in learning from the United Arab Emirates’ modern management systems, which have been instrumental in propelling the UAE to developed status. During a high-level meeting with UAE’s Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange, Abdulla Nasser Lootah, the Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s own ongoing reforms, including digitization, a paperless economy, and the faceless customs system, aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency.

Emphasizing the importance of effective governance and data-driven decision-making, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sought to benefit from the UAE’s experiences to further enhance Pakistan’s development initiatives. He also recalled his productive discussions with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during his recent visit to Abu Dhabi, noting the UAE’s pivotal role in easing regional tensions between Pakistan and India.

The meeting culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on enhancing government performance through knowledge exchange, cooperation in public sector reforms, development planning, good governance, and advancements in science and technology.

The MoU was signed by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Prof. Ahsan Iqbal and UAE’s Deputy Minister Abdulla Nasser Lootah in the presence of senior Pakistani officials including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, and Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi.

This landmark collaboration is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s governance and development frameworks by leveraging the UAE’s expertise, paving the way for accelerated reforms and enhanced public sector performance.
