MIRPUR (AJK): The 5-day nationwide polio eradication campaign began across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Monday, aiming to vaccinate 742,500 children under 5 years of age. The drive, set to run until February 7, is being conducted with the support of 4,000 mobile teams and 450 fixed vaccination centers.
In Muzaffarabad, over 130,000 children are targeted, with a total of 169 transit points set up for the campaign. The effort is being supervised by 844 area in-charges across 35 tehsils and 245 union councils in AJK.
In the Mirpur district, 76,656 children are set to receive the polio vaccine, with 438 mobile teams visiting homes, supported by 41 fixed centers and 14 transit points. District Health Officer Dr. Fida Hussain emphasized the importance of parental cooperation to ensure children receive the vaccine.

The campaign is being coordinated by the AJK State Health Department with the World Health Organization’s assistance. Notably, no cases of polio have been reported in AJK in the past 25 years.
