MQM-P expresses discontent with ECP ahead of elections

Dr Khalid Maqbool convener claims ECP only resolved issues which were raised by PPP.

ISLAMABAD: In a press conference in Islamabad, MQM-P Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui expressed dissatisfaction with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), stating that their concerns have not been adequately addressed as the country prepares for elections on February 8 next year.

Following a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, Siddiqui claimed that while the ECP resolved issues raised by the PPP in Sindh, it failed to address concerns raised by other parties, including MQM-P.

Siddiqui emphasized the political, administrative, and electoral division of Sindh, warning that a failure to ensure transparent elections could intensify the crisis in the country. He accused the provincial election commissioner of being biased towards PPP.

MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar stated that the ECP accepted objections raised by the PPP but worsened the delimitation issue raised by his party. Expressing discontent with the new constituency boundaries, Sattar mentioned the inclusion of Saeedabad in the Keamari constituency.

Sattar concluded by asserting that their only hope is the chief election commissioner, or the party may consider approaching the Islamabad High Court. He also accused the PPP of corruption and seizing resources in Sindh.
