Islamabad – Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai will participate in a high-profile summit on girls’ education, set to take place in Islamabad on January 11-12, 2025. The event aims to advance girls’ education and raise awareness about women’s empowerment in Muslim communities.
Malala, a renowned advocate for education, is expected to speak on the critical need to protect girls’ right to education, drawing from her personal experience and ongoing advocacy efforts. The summit will bring together Muslim leaders from around the world to discuss solutions to challenges faced by girls in accessing education.
Malala, who survived a Taliban attack in 2012 for speaking out against the ban on girls’ education in Pakistan’s Swat Valley, has long been a vocal advocate for girls’ rights. The tragic attack, which left her critically injured, led to her evacuation abroad for treatment. Since then, Malala has made several visits to Pakistan but has remained a prominent global figure for girls’ education.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Malala shared her excitement for the summit: “I am excited to join Muslim leaders from around the world for a critical conference on girls’ education. On Sunday, I will speak about protecting rights for all girls to go to school, and why leaders must hold the Taliban accountable for their crimes against Afghan women & girls.”

Malala’s attendance at the summit, organized by her Malala Fund, underscores her continued commitment to advocating for education for all girls, particularly in regions where girls face significant barriers to schooling.
The summit is expected to provide a platform for world leaders to collaborate on advancing education for girls in Muslim-majority countries, with a strong focus on accountability and action against groups like the Taliban that impede educational opportunities for women and girls.
