Light pollution, caused by excessive or misdirected artificial light, has several negative impacts on the environment. It disrupts ecosystems by altering natural light –dark cycles, affecting the behavior of nocturnal animals, such as bird, insects, and sea turtles. It also interferes with the migration patterns of birds and can lead to disorientation and collisions. Additionally, light pollution can affect human health by disrupting sleep patterns and contributing to condition like insomnia and fatigue. Moreover, it wastes energy and contributes to carbon emissions, as well as obscuring our view of the night sky, diminishing our connection to the cosmos. Controlling light pollution involves using shielded fixtures, directing light downward, implementing regulation, raising public lighting technologies to minimize its impact on the environment.
