Lahore police officer narrates details of saving woman’s life from mob

Lahore: Lahore police officer narrates details. Gulberg Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi has said that it was a difficult task to save the woman’s life in a tense situation, as an angry mob chased the woman while she was being taken away.

In , the police officer said saving the woman’s life was her first priority, as any slight negligence or mistake could have caused a huge tragedy.

She was responding to a recent incident in Lahore’s Ichhra Bazaar, where an angry mob of religious zealots was baying for the blood of a woman over suspicions of wearing inappropriate clothes bearing, what they believed, were Arabic inscriptions.

ASP Naqvi explained that the woman in question had an argument with the traders in Ichhra Bazaar. “The woman was locked in a restaurant and shuttered. It was a difficult task to save her life from the hands of the angry mob,” she added.

She further said that a minor mistake could have led to a major tragedy, adding that while the woman was being taken away by the police, the crowd ran behind to chase them. She explained that she had to reason with the crowd in the market to pacify it.

“The Arabic written on the woman’s dress was thoroughly examined,” the ASP claimed, stressing the importance of researching any news or rumour.
