Washington D.C. (Special Correspondent) — In a major diplomatic initiative, the Kashmir Global Council (KGC) has announced a high-profile international conference in Washington D.C. to commemorate Kashmir Martyrs’ Day on July 13, with the event scheduled to take place on July 14 at the U.S. Capitol Hill—the heart of American legislative authority.
The conference is expected to draw participation from U.S. Republican Party leaders, peace and development advocates such as Bob Cooke and Shahab Qarni, along with human rights defenders, legal scholars, bankers, and policy analysts based in Washington and beyond.
Themed around international solidarity and justice, the event aims to reignite global awareness of the Kashmir issue and bring the authentic voices of the Kashmiri people to the forefront of global discourse.
Highlight: Announcement of “Kashmir Senate”
One of the most anticipated moments of the conference will be the official announcement of the “Kashmir Senate”—a proposed representative political body incorporating voices from all parts of Jammu & Kashmir and the global Kashmiri diaspora. According to KGC, the Senate will function as a unified political platform dedicated to representing the collective aspirations of the Kashmiri people, particularly their right to self-determination under international law.
July 13: Remembering the Martyrs of 1931
KGC also underscored the historical and emotional importance of July 13, 1931, when 22 unarmed Kashmiris were martyred in Srinagar while protesting against colonial oppression.
“Their sacrifice was not in vain—it laid the foundation for an ongoing struggle for dignity, rights, and freedom,” stated the Council.
Global Appeal to the International Community
KGC reiterated that the Kashmir conflict is not merely a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan but a global human rights concern. The organization called upon the United Nations, international human rights bodies, and democratic governments to recognize the inalienable rights of the Kashmiri people, uphold international law, and facilitate a peaceful resolution to the long-standing conflict.
“The people of Kashmir are the principal stakeholders and must be heard. For too long, their voices have been ignored on the global stage,” said a KGC spokesperson.
Final Agenda to be Released Soon
While the full guest list and program agenda will be announced in the coming days, KGC expressed confidence that the conference would serve as a historic diplomatic milestone in advancing justice, peace, and political recognition for the people of Kashmir.
The event is expected to generate significant international media coverage and policy attention, especially given its venue at Capitol Hill and the participation of key U.S. political figures.
