Japanese Researchers Shatter Data Transmission Record with Optical Fiber Innovation

Tokyo: Researchers at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Japan have set a new world record for data transmission using commercially available optical fiber, achieving a staggering rate of 402 terabits per second. This new record surpasses the average broadband speed in the UK by nearly five million times.
Led by the Photonic Network Laboratory at NICT, the team developed a system capable of covering all transmission bands of standard optical fiber. This breakthrough opens previously unused wavelength bands, offering a potential game-changer for future telecommunication networks.
