Israel Launches Targeted Raids on Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon

Israel’s military announced on Tuesday that it has initiated “limited, localized, and targeted raids” on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, specifically targeting areas close to the border that are perceived as threats to Israeli communities.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that both air and artillery support are being used to carry out precise strikes on military targets in the region. The operation aims to protect Israeli citizens and facilitate their return home amid ongoing conflicts, particularly in Gaza.

Hezbollah’s deputy leader, Naim Qassem, warned that the group’s fighters are prepared for a potential ground invasion by Israel, marking his first public address since the death of Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah.

Following the IDF’s announcement, there were reports of Israeli airstrikes in southern Beirut, prompting evacuation calls from the Israeli military to residents near Hezbollah-affiliated sites. A Lebanese security official confirmed that at least six strikes had occurred in the area.

Despite international pleas for de-escalation, Israel has indicated that its military operations against Hezbollah will continue. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized that the conflict is far from over, even after the significant strike that killed Nasrallah.

In response to the ongoing violence, Israel has implemented a “closed military zone” along the border. Reports indicate that hundreds have died in the strikes, and up to a million people have been displaced in Lebanon.

The conflict, which intensified following the Hamas attack on October 7, has left residents across the region anxious about the escalating violence. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iran of exacerbating the situation, while Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati called for a ceasefire based on a recent US-French proposal to halt Israeli aggression against Lebanon.

In a related development, an Israeli strike reportedly killed a Hamas leader in Lebanon and members of an armed Palestinian group, further escalating tensions in the region.
