PDMA Punjab Issues Flood Warnings as India’s Spillway Release Increases Water Levels in Chenab and Ravi Rivers

India has opened the spillways on the Chenab and Ravi rivers without advance warning, leading to flooding in thousands of villages and submerging large regions of Pakistan, according to reports.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued flood warnings as water levels at the Qadirabad Barrage on the Chenab River are rapidly rising. The flow in the Chenab is expected to increase from 200,000 cusecs to 250,000 cusecs.

This unexpected release has raised concerns about regional water management practices and their effects on neighboring countries.
