Helmet Mandate in Punjab: New Regulations for Motorcycle Riders
Riders without helmets will incur a PKR 2,000 fine; improper helmet use also penalized.
All districts in Punjab have implemented a mandate requiring motorcycle riders to wear helmets, with restricted access for those without helmets in several key areas.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar announced that special checkpoints will be set up on major roads, including Mall Road, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Canal Road, and Main Boulevard.
Additional checkpoints will be located at Shanu Baba Chowk, Lake City, Adda Plot, and Abdul Sattar Edhi Road.
To ensure compliance, traffic wardens will be positioned at the entry and exit points of busy routes. Riders found without helmets will face a fine of PKR 2,000.
Athar noted that riders who wear helmets will not incur any fines. Furthermore, fines will also be issued for improperly wearing helmets or placing them on the motorcycle tank.
Access for riders without helmets continues to be restricted on various highways, underscoring the region’s commitment to improving road safety.
