Global Reactions to Trump’s Proposal for Gaza After Ceasefire
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump’s recent statement regarding the future of Gaza has sparked strong reactions from around the world. Trump proposed that Israel would hand over Gaza to the United States after the fighting concluded and Palestinians had been resettled elsewhere. He suggested that no US troops would be needed on the ground, with displaced Palestinians relocated to “safer and more beautiful communities” in the region.
In his statement, Trump explained that the Gaza Strip would be transferred to the United States once the fighting ended, with Palestinians resettled in new homes. He further emphasized that the United States would not require military presence in Gaza following the fighting.
However, Trump’s proposal has been met with widespread criticism from various global entities. Ireland’s Foreign Ministry rejected a suggestion by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz for the country to accept displaced Palestinians. The ministry stated that the focus should be on providing humanitarian aid to Gaza, restoring basic services, and creating a framework for the return of displaced persons, calling Katz’s suggestion “unhelpful” and “distracting” from the core issue.
In Pakistan, the government also expressed strong disapproval of Trump’s proposal. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan termed the idea of displacing Palestinians from Gaza as “deeply troubling and unjust.” He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people in their struggle for self-determination and for the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al Sharif as its capital.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has been actively providing medical aid to Gaza. Since the ceasefire agreement, 63 trucks of medical supplies have been delivered to the region, helping to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The international community continues to respond with a mix of support for humanitarian aid initiatives and condemnation of proposals that threaten Palestinian rights and sovereignty.
