For the fiscal year 2023-24, Pakistan’s defense budget stands at approximately $11.6 billion, constituting a significant portion of the overall government expenditure yet remaining lower in absolute terms compared to larger economies and military powers.
In contrast to neighboring India, which allocates over $80 billion to defense, Pakistan’s defense spending appears conservative. According to the most recent report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), which monitors global military expenditures, India is ranked fourth worldwide in defense spending. India has also maintained its position as the largest importer of military equipment. The Indian Parliament has allocated a defense budget of 4.8 lakh crore rupees for the fiscal year 2024-25, constituting approximately 13% of the total budget. India’s defense expenditure is nearly ten times higher than that of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the proposed expenditure constitutes 12.33% of the projected current expenses.

One prevalent misconception is that our Defense Budget is solely earmarked for war and aggression. In reality, our defense budget encompasses a wide spectrum of expenditures beyond combat operations.
