Climate Research Wing Aims to Develop Innovative Solutions for Water Security
Solar Water Project Founder Unveils CRW Initiative at Islamabad Climate Event
Islamabad-(Mudassar Iqbal)-Hamza Farrukh, Founder and CEO of Bondh E Shams (Solar Water Project), announced the launch of the Climate Research Wing (CRW) at the “Unite for Climate Action” event held at Islamabad Club. The evening brought together changemakers, climate advocates, journalists, and policymakers to discuss urgent responses to the global water and climate crises.
“Climate change is water change,” Hamza remarked during his keynote address. “For millions, the fight against water scarcity and climate disasters is a battle for survival.” He highlighted Bondh E Shams’ revolutionary OASIS Box™, a solar-powered, portable water filtration system, which during the 2022 floods, converted flood water into clean drinking water.
The launch of the Climate Research Wing (CRW) by Bondh E Shams, led by Hamza Farrukh, who is currently studying environmental science at Stanford University, will focus on coming up with new ways to tackle climate change and water-related challenges. CRW will serve as a knowledge hub for journalists and policymakers, providing data-driven insights and practical solutions for water security and climate adaptation. This initiative builds on Bondh E Shams’ history of using innovative technology to create real-world solutions for communities in need.
Ali Jaber Malik, President of the Environment Journalists Forum (EJF), delivered a speech highlighting the media’s critical role in climate advocacy. EJF, a national platform dedicated to environmental reporting, formalized its partnership with Bondh E Shams through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Asghar Hayat, General Secretary of EJF, and Dr. Ammad Farrukh, COO of Bondh E Shams. Under this MoU, EJF committed to mobilizing journalists for climate-related campaigns. In return, Bondh E Shams pledged technical support for fellowships, workshops, and environment research initiatives.
The event also featured live demonstrations of the OASIS Box™ Disaster Relief Unit, originally designed for humanitarian aid in Gaza. Attendees also reflected on COP29 outcomes and engaged in a panel discussion titled “Let’s Talk Solutions.” Panelists included, Hassan Hayat, Documentary Maker, PTV, Dr. Dr. Farhat Asif, President, Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS) and Hamza Farrukh, CEO, Bondh E Shams.
The panel explored actionable steps for media, civil society, and governments to combat climate challenges, focusing on Pakistan’s escalating water crisis.
Dr. Ammad Farrukh, COO of Bondh E Shams and Ali Javer Malik, President Environment Journalist Forum also spoke at the event. Speakers called for greater collaboration, policy innovation, and investment in sustainable technologies. Hamza closed with a compelling call to action for global funders: “Break barriers, invest in scalable solutions, and enable us to deliver real change to the communities that need it most.”
