CJP Qazi Faez Isa affirms citizens’ right to disagree with judiciary

Cabinet Committee Formed to Investigate May 9 Incidents

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa emphasized the fundamental right of every citizen to disagree with the judiciary during a speech at the launch event of the e-campus of the Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad. The Chief Justice noted that transparency had been ensured through the live broadcast of court proceedings, providing an opportunity for judges, lawyers, and civilians to learn.

CJP Isa, who also serves as the chairman of the Federal Judicial Academy, highlighted the positive impact of technology on the judiciary. He commended the use of live broadcasts, stating that it served as a means of education for judges, lawyers, and the general public. He expressed satisfaction that technology was being embraced in the judiciary, facilitating learning opportunities for legal students through the live telecast of cases.

Acknowledging the downsides of live broadcasting, CJP Isa humorously shared an anecdote about his wife noticing his posture during hearings. Despite these nuances, he stressed the importance of technology as a tool, drawing a parallel with the mention of a pen as a tool in the holy Quran.

The Chief Justice called for discouraging fabricated cases and imposing damages on those filing such cases to safeguard the judicial system. He also expressed concern about the trend of every issue landing directly in the Supreme Court and advocated for measures to address this development and save the system.

The formation of this committee aligns with the caretaker government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that those responsible for the violence on May 9 are held accountable. The decision comes in light of emerging videos showcasing the extent of the violence, providing valuable evidence for the investigation into the accused individuals, including PTI leaders and workers.
