Ban on Smoking in Educational Institutions in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department has issued a notification directing all educational authorities to enforce a ban on smoking and the use of other intoxicating substances in schools.

According to the notification, both public and private schools will be prohibited from using cigarettes, tobacco, e-cigarettes, nicotine pouches, and other nicotine products. A zero-tolerance policy against drugs will be implemented in all educational institutions. Any violation of these directives will result in strict action.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, in her message on World Cancer Day, emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding cancer diagnosis and treatment. She expressed concern over the rising cancer mortality rate in Pakistan.

She highlighted that avoiding tobacco and cigarettes could prevent cancer and expressed her desire to provide free cancer treatment facilities in every district. She also mentioned that air and water pollution could contribute to the risk of cancer.
