Protecting the world we live in, and leaving it a better place for the future is something that is a global concern for individuals and businesses alike. Governments and influential industry leaders have been taking on the challenge of identifying the issues, devising strategies, and implementing solutions in order to prevent the damage from becoming permanent.

COP28 was the 28th annual United Nations (UN) climate meeting, where governments discuss how to limit and prepare for future climate change.
The summit took place in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It was scheduled to last from 30 November to 12 December 2023. Pakistan actively participated in COP28 ,According to data from the Global Climate Risk Index 2022, Pakistan is ranked 5th among the countries most affected by climate change. This vulnerability is evident in experiencing extreme weather conditions such as heatwaves, floods and droughts.

Today I received some glimpses from an Islamabad based environmentalist Ms.Zunaira mujeed , I’m very glad to share how Pakistani students and teachers are taking environmental issues as primary issues to be addressed.

Leaders of The Future Bootcamp 5.0: Climate Centered Conference by Global Shapers Islamabad

In a landmark event organized by Global Shapers Islamabad Hub, an initiative of the World Economic Forum at TMUC Islamabad, the Leaders of the Future Bootcamp 5.0 unfolded with a dynamic agenda designed to empower and inspire the next generation of leaders. The boot camp, held in the vibrant city of Islamabad, brought together visionaries, thought leaders and change-makers to address the critical central theme of ‘Tackling Climate Change Through Transformative Solutions’.
The event commenced with a compelling Introduction and Opening Words led by esteemed Project Leads and curators, setting the tone for an intellectually charged atmosphere. Attendees were seamlessly integrated through an engaging Ice-breaking Activity, fostering connections and collaboration.
The boot camp featured an impressive lineup of speakers, each lending their expertise to diverse facets of climate action.

Zunaira Majeed, an environmentalist serving in academia, in her role as the 1st Speaker, passionately addressed the significance of Youth Voices in Climate Action, resonating with the theme of empowerment and inclusivity. Her engaging session sparked many thoughts in leaders of tomorrow. The slogan “No Planet B” was the key take away.
Kashaf Alvi, young def author and Microsoft Certified Associate, took the stage for an Inclusivity Session, shedding light on the imperative need to prioritize At-Risk Populations during climate change challenges. He emphasized the specific needs of persons with disabilities and ways to tackle them.

Shehrbano Jamali, a management consultant, followed suit, offering profound insights into the intersection of Climate change and Global Health, making a compelling case for urgent action. She shared her experiences of flood relief activities in far flung areas of Balauchistan and displayed thought provoking stats of health issues in climate disasters. She also incorporated a Vulnerability Care activity that urged the participants to be careful about their tiny actions of daily routine contributing towards greater issue of climate change.
Fizza Amjad, CEO AtomCamp, brought innovation to the forefront with a discussion on Climate-Smart Housing, emphasizing the role of sustainable architecture in building a resilient future. She discussed various modern building designs such as vertical buildings and their impact on climate.
Nameer Urfi, a climate technologist, delved into Tech Solutions for Climate Change, highlighting the pivotal role of technology in addressing environmental challenges. Through his practical activities, he underlined the limitations of technological advancements as we can mostly monitor climate change with its help. There is a far greater need of controlling the effects that we are monitoring.
Waqas Ramzan, an entrepreneur and inclusion activist, addressed the transformative solution part of the conference by displaying his startup. The online service aim to digitize the paper based surveys conducted by researchers in academia, businesses and organizations to help reduce paper consumption and transform toward green alternative.
Maha Kamal, international public policy specialist, shared invaluable perspectives on Climate Change and governance, contributing to the holistic understanding of the issue. She underscored current state of climate related policies and how governments around the world can contribute to sustainable future.
The event also featured a trivia game session, led by Fatima Asghar and Maryam Waheed, injecting a dose of fun and camaraderie into the serious discussions. The game comprised of tons of climate related questions to help spread the knowledge and awareness in a fun way.
The closing remarks, delivered by Ms. Sauleha Kamal and Maaz Ali Nadeem, encapsulated the essence of the boot camp, leaving attendees inspired and motivated to take action to preserve the environment.
