TRADITION OF LOYALTY

Written by: Syed Naveed Murtaza Bukhari

The people of truth and faith have always stood firm against all the false forces that came in the way of Islam and have always stood firm in the face of falsehood in every battle from the battlefield of Badr to Karbala. The tragedy of Karbala is such an unprecedented chapter in human history, in which [ the grandson of the Prophet (PBUH), the heartthrob of Hazrat Ali (A.S) and Hazrat Bibi Fatima (S.A) ], Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) not only sacrificed his life in the path of truth but also emerged victorious in the most difficult test of sacrificing his family and loved ones. These 72 people included children, women and the sick, all of whom had never come to Karbala with the intention of war, but rather they all came as followers of Imam Hussain (A.S) for the reform of the Muslim Ummah and the survival of the true religion, and they laid the foundation of an unparalleled in the path of truth. According to the poet;

Haq ke Liye Jan Dene Ki Jo Rasm Chali Hay

Is Rasm Ka Bani Hi Hussain Ibn-e-Ali (A.S) Hay

***The tradition of sacrificing one’s life for the truth has been established.

The founder of this tradition is Hussain Ibn-e-Ali (A.S) *

History refers that after the martyrdom of Ameer Al-Mu’mineen Hazrat Imam Ali ibn-e-Abu Talib (A.S), the Islamic Caliphate system was dominated by monarchy, and Yazid ibn-e-Muawiyah-ibn-e-Sufyan not only continued this style of rule, but he also wanted to implement his evil intentions of replacing the Islamic government with monarchy. Yazid was a tyrant, a transgressor, an insolent and a wicked person. He considered alcohol and prostitution, adultery and usury as permissible. Yazid was seeking to reject and amend Islamic principles and laws, and he wanted to adapt the Sharia to suit his nature. Yazid wanted to abolish the teachings of Allah and the Holy Prophet (PBUH), and the Islamic injunctions regarding what is permissible and what is forbidden, and to enforce his own impure and abominable decisions. He wanted to force Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) to accept his authority based on monarchy, oppression and falsehood, and his personal laws. But he had forgotten that infront of him was Hussain ibn-e-Ali (A.S), the beloved grandson of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH). In love for Imam Hussain (A.S), the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Hussain (A.S) is from me and I am from Hussain (A.S). May Allah Almighty love whoever loves Hussain (A.S).” (Hadith narrated from Jami’ Tirmidhi). In this blessed Hadith, this is a clear expression of the love and affection of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) for Imam Hussain (A.S.), but Yazid ibn-e-Muawiyah, intoxicated with worldly power and the throne, ignored this fact and committed the greatest insult to the Prophet (PBUH) in history on the battlefield of Karbala,

when the army of Yazid martyred the blessed neck of Imam Hussain ibn-e-Ali (A.S.) which the Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to kiss.
Authority acquired outside the principles of Islam and power with coercion and force cannot be considered right in any way. The lesson of Karbala is also to adhere to the teachings and principles of Islam and to subordinate one’s selfish desires to the religion of truth. Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) was free from the desire for worldly power, and the worldly throne and crown for which Yazid committed the worst oppression and oppression in Karbala were the dust of the feet and the stumbling blocks of the feet of the grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The characteristic of the education, training and upbringing of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) was that the goal of life should be to establish the religion of Allah Almighty and to stop the path of falsehood. Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) raised the word of truth with his understanding, insight, courage and bravery and considered Yazid’s allegiance to be synonymous with the endorsement of falsehood. By clearly refusing Yazid’s allegiance, Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) taught the world a great lesson of truth and loyalty for the honor of Islam and became an eternal symbol of truth in the universe. According to the poet;

Khoon Se Charag-e-Deen Jalaya , Hussain (A.S) Ney

Rasm-e-Wafa Ko Khoob Nibhaya , Hussain (A.S) Ney

* Hussain (A.S) lit the light of religion with blood.

Hussain (A.S) performed the tradition of loyalty well *
