National Health Emergency Center Established Amid Rising Regional Tensions

NIH was tasked with ramping up local vaccine production, and federal hospitals were ordered to maintain full operational capacity.

ISLAMABAD: In response to the evolving geopolitical situation, the Ministry of National Health Services has established a National Health Emergency Center at the National Institute of Health (NIH), which will operate 24/7 in close coordination with provincial authorities and key institutions. The move follows a high-level emergency meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal, aimed at reviewing the country’s health preparedness and devising strategies to manage potential medical emergencies.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Director General Health, the CEO of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), heads of federal hospitals, and health representatives from Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Minister Kamal emphasized the need for full readiness, directing uninterrupted supply chains of life-saving medicines and vaccines, while also calling for alternatives to Indian imports. The NIH was tasked with ramping up local vaccine production, and federal hospitals were ordered to maintain full operational capacity. Provinces were asked to increase bed capacity and stock essential supplies, while Polyclinic Hospital was instructed to prepare burn treatment facilities. The Ministry also assured prioritized medical support for the armed forces, with Minister Kamal stressing the importance of timely information sharing during crises.
