Public Holiday Declared in Gilgit-Baltistan Following Prince Karim Aga Khan’s Passing

Islamabad: The Gilgit-Baltistan government has announced a public holiday for February 6, 2025, following the passing of Prince Karim Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community. The region’s government issued an official notification confirming that all government offices and educational institutions will remain closed on this day.

Prince Karim Aga Khan, who passed away in Lisbon, Portugal, on February 5, was a revered leader who assumed leadership of the Ismaili Muslims in 1957, following the death of his grandfather, Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan.

Gilgit-Baltistan is home to a large population of Ismaili Muslims, and Prince Karim Aga Khan’s contributions to education, healthcare, and community development in the region have earned him deep respect and admiration.
