Dubai – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the list of 15 match officials for the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, which will take place across Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates from February 19 to March 9, 2025. The tournament will be held at four iconic venues: Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi in Pakistan, as well as Dubai in the UAE.
A distinguished panel of 12 umpires has been selected to officiate the 8-team event, with six of them returning from the 2017 edition, including Richard Kettleborough, who officiated the final of the previous Champions Trophy in the UK. Kettleborough, with 108 Men’s ODIs to his name, will be joined by fellow umpires Chris Gaffaney, Kumar Dharmasena, Richard Illingworth, Paul Reiffel, and Rod Tucker, who were all part of the 2017 tournament.
Dharmasena, a seasoned umpire from Sri Lanka, will extend his record of officiating 132 ODIs, making him the first Sri Lankan umpire to achieve this feat in the One-Day format.
The panel also includes Michael Gough, Adrian Holdstock, Ahsan Raza, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, Alex Wharf, and Joel Wilson, all of whom officiated during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Kettleborough and Illingworth were together on the field during the World Cup final in Ahmedabad.
The match referees’ panel will be headed by David Boon, Ranjan Madugalle, and Andrew Pycroft, all of whom are esteemed members of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Boon officiated the 2017 Champions Trophy final, while Madugalle returns after officiating the 2013 final, and Pycroft was also a part of the 2017 tournament.
The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 is expected to be a thrilling competition, and the selected match officials will ensure that the tournament maintains high standards of fairness and integrity.
