Aysha Raza Farooq Urges Nationwide Cooperation for Polio Vaccination

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched the nationwide anti-polio campaign for 2025 on Sunday by administering polio drops to children under five, reaffirming his government’s commitment to eradicating the disease from Pakistan.

During the ceremony, PM Shehbaz emphasized that millions of children across the country would be targeted in this national vaccine campaign, which aims to protect their health and future. He stressed that dedicated teams would work tirelessly, including in remote areas, to ensure widespread coverage.

PM Shehbaz acknowledged the challenges faced in the past, citing 77 polio cases reported in the previous year, but noted the significant progress made with only one case reported this year. He expressed confidence that the continued effort, aided by international support, would finally eliminate polio from Pakistan.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of international coordination, particularly with Afghanistan, to eradicate polio in the region.

He expressed gratitude to global partners such as WHO, UNICEF, the Bill Gates Foundation, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their ongoing support in the fight against polio.

Dr. Mukhtar Bharat, Coordinator on National Health Services, appreciated the efforts of all involved, emphasizing that the concerted approach had led to the significant reduction in cases.

PM’s Focal Person on Polio Eradication, Aysha Raza Farooq, called for the active participation of all segments of society, urging parents to cooperate and ensure their children are vaccinated to protect them from polio.
