Gongadi Trisha Named Player of the Tournament at ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025

ISLAMABAD: India’s emerging cricket sensation, Gongadi Trisha, has been awarded the Player of the Tournament title at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025, cementing her status as one of the brightest talents in women’s cricket.

The talented opener finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer, amassing a remarkable 309 runs in just seven innings. Her performance was a standout as she topped the batting charts by a margin of 133 runs.

Trisha’s all-round brilliance was on full display in the final, where she played a pivotal role in India’s nine-wicket victory over South Africa. The Indian team successfully defended the title they first won in 2023. Trisha’s performance in the final was nothing short of match-winning – she bowled three crucial wickets for just 15 runs as South Africa were bowled out for a mere 82 runs. Trisha then guided India to victory with an explosive 44 not out off just 33 balls, hitting eight boundaries along the way and taking India home with 52 balls to spare.

Reflecting on her achievement, Trisha dedicated the award to her father, saying, “It means everything. I would like to dedicate this to my father because he is here. I don’t think I would be here without him. I want to play for my country and win more matches. Winning this again is simply superb.”

Throughout the tournament, Trisha continued to showcase her all-round skills. Her spectacular century – the first-ever in U19 Women’s World Cup history – came against Scotland, where she scored an unbeaten 110 off just 59 balls. Additionally, Trisha accumulated the second-best batting average of the tournament while hitting the most boundaries and the second-most sixes. As an off-spinner, she also took nine wickets, with her best bowling figures being three for six against Scotland.

Trisha’s stellar performance has earned her a well-deserved spot in cricket’s growing pool of promising young talents. Her contribution follows in the footsteps of England’s Grace Scrivens, who won the Player of the Tournament honor in 2023, making it two years in a row that the award has gone to a dynamic young all-rounder.

Trisha’s achievement is a testament to India’s growing strength in women’s cricket, and she will undoubtedly be one to watch as she continues to shine in the sport’s global landscape.
