Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Launches Solarization Project for Agricultural Tube Wells

ؒLAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the solarization project for agricultural tube wells. During the inauguration, the CM conducted a draw for the project, with the first selected participant being a farmer from Attock.

On the occasion, Maryam Nawaz also reviewed the list of farmers from Narowal, and announced that, in the first phase, 8,000 tube wells across Punjab will be transitioned to solar energy. The Punjab government will provide a subsidy of 500,000 PKR for a 10 kW solar system for agricultural tube wells. Successful farmers will be able to choose a local vendor to install the solar system in their respective districts.

More than 530,000 farmers have applied for the agricultural tube well solarization project, with 385,000 farmers qualifying for the lottery. The goal is to complete the solarization of these tube wells by June in the first phase.

Speaking at the event, Maryam Nawaz stated that the transition to solar-powered tube wells will revolutionize farming in Punjab. She highlighted that this initiative will reduce production costs for crops and emphasized that various government programs such as the Kisan Card, Agricultural Mechanization, and Agri Internships are all aimed at improving the livelihoods of farmers in the province.
