ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has firmly rejected an offer to be transferred to his Bani Gala residence in Islamabad to serve the remainder of his sentence. Khan, who has been incarcerated at Adiala Jail, made it clear that he would not accept any such arrangement unless all detainees held without trial are released.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, disclosed that the PTI leader had been presented with the option of house arrest at his Bani Gala residence, but Khan firmly rejected the proposal. According to Chaudhry, Khan stated that he would remain in prison until all those detained without trial are freed, underscoring his stance against any form of compromise on this issue.
The discussion about a potential deal surfaced last month, with rumors suggesting that the government might offer Khan house arrest on the condition that he refrains from challenging the political system and abandons his agitation-based politics. These speculations emerged alongside ongoing negotiations between PTI and the federal government regarding the release of political prisoners and the formation of a commission to investigate the events surrounding May 9, 2023, and November 26, 2024.
Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, also weighed in earlier this week, confirming that her brother had rejected any deal. Speaking to the media, Aleema stated that Imran Khan had already served over a year in prison and had no reason to negotiate his release. She emphasized that his legal matters had been addressed, and dismissed any suggestions that Khan was seeking personal relief.
Furthermore, PTI Senator Shibli Faraz denied claims that Imran Khan was negotiating for personal concessions with the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) coalition government. He reiterated that PTI’s stance remained focused on securing the release of political prisoners and addressing broader concerns related to the political climate.

In light of these developments, Faisal Chaudhry urged the authorities to allow PTI’s negotiation committee to meet with Khan directly, ensuring that the discussions remain centered on PTI’s core demands rather than personal issues. The ongoing talks continue to focus on securing justice for detained individuals and pushing for political reforms.
Imran Khan’s rejection of the Bani Gala shift highlights his firm position on the issue of detainees, demonstrating his commitment to his political principles despite his personal circumstances.
