Pakistan to Launch 5G Technology in 2025 Amid Key Challenges
PTA Highlights Major Investments Needed for 5G Rollout, Financial Challenges Ahead
Islamabad: Pakistan is set to launch 5G technology in 2025, with the aim of boosting the national economy and providing consumers with faster internet speeds. However, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has highlighted several challenges that must be addressed before the rollout of the high-speed service.
According to the PTA, substantial investments will be required to upgrade the existing network and infrastructure. Key components such as expensive fiber optics, small cell sites, and advanced antennas will need to be installed, placing a significant financial burden on the telecom sector. Moreover, it is expected to take time before the financial returns on these large investments are realized.
A major hurdle identified by the PTA is the lack of 5G-compatible smartphones in the country, which could delay the widespread adoption of the technology. While urban areas with better infrastructure are likely to experience faster 5G deployment, rural areas may face delays due to the high costs of logistics and infrastructure development.

To address these challenges, the PTA suggested that government incentives and public-private partnerships could help ease the financial burden and facilitate a smoother transition to 5G technology across the country.
The government remains committed to ensuring the successful introduction of 5G, which is expected to play a pivotal role in Pakistan’s digital transformation.
