Israel Seizes Territory in Golan Heights Amid Syrian Conflict

DAMASCUS: Israel has seized territory in Syrian-controlled areas of the Golan Heights after Syrian opposition forces captured Damascus, ending Bashar al-Assad’s rule. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered Israeli forces to take control of a buffer zone established by the 1974 ceasefire agreement, citing the abandonment of Syrian positions by soldiers. Netanyahu emphasized that Israel would not allow hostile forces near its border.

The Israeli military issued warnings to Syrians in five nearby villages, advising them to stay home as tensions rise. Agricultural areas in the Golan Heights were declared closed military zones, and some schools switched to online classes.
