Urgent Advisory Issued Amid Surge in Dengue Cases

The Ministry of National Health Services and Regulations has released an urgent advisory concerning the increased risk of dengue transmission due to heavy rainfall and favorable weather conditions.

This alert follows a notable surge in dengue-positive cases in Islamabad, which rose dramatically from 111 to 1,404 between September 9 and October 2.

Dr. Zaeem Zia, the District Health Officer (DHO) of Islamabad, pointed out that most breeding sites for dengue larvae are located in residential areas, construction sites, and public spaces.

In response to this situation, DHO teams have initiated intensive measures, including Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) and public awareness campaigns on dengue prevention.

To help prevent dengue, health officials recommend the following measures:

– Wear long sleeves and use mosquito repellent to avoid bites.
– Limit outdoor activities after sunset and steer clear of areas with standing water, tall grass, and piles of garbage.
– Seek advice from healthcare professionals instead of self-medicating.
– Contact local field monitoring teams to request dengue spraying in your vicinity.

Health authorities are urging the public to take necessary precautions and have instructed medical facilities to establish dedicated counters for handling dengue-related cases. The district administration is also working to control larvae through various strategies.

Dengue fever can lead to a drop in platelets and can be life-threatening if not addressed quickly. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stress the importance of seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms arise.
