Pakistan’s Meat Exports Surge by 24.37% in First 10 Months of Fiscal Year

ISLAMABAD:Pakistan’s meat exports increased by 24.37% to $430.74 million from July to April 2023-24. Meanwhile, fish exports dropped by 15.74%, and overall food exports grew by 45.61%.

From July to April 2023-24, the nation exported over 104,513 metric tonnes of meat and meat products valued at $430.74 million. This is a notable rise from the 80,423 metric tonnes worth $346.33 million exported during the same period last year.

Conversely, exports of fish and fish preparations experienced a downturn, decreasing by 15.74 per cent. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics reported that 167,345 metric tonnes of fish and fish products worth $342.15 million were exported in the first 10 months of this financial year.

This is a decline from the 173,550 metric tonnes valued at $406.09 million exported in the same period of the previous year.

The overall food group exports showed remarkable growth, increasing by 45.61 per cent. Food commodities worth $6.23 billion were exported from July to April 2023-24, compared to $4.28 billion in the same period last year.

In contrast, the import of food goods into the country decreased by 12.18 per cent during the review period, dropping to $6.82 billion from $7.76 billion recorded in the same timeframe last year.

However, on a month-on-month basis, the imports of food commodities rose by 22.82 per cent in April 2024, with imports valued at $527.03 million compared to $429.11 million in April of the previous year.
