PML-N wants former CJP, accomplices booked for treason

Staff Reporter – Islamabad:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President, also Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday that the “emergence of a new audio clip of former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar showed how the party supremo Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz were targeted as part of a grand scheme to keep them out of [the] political process.”

“Time has come to right the wrongs inflicted on them. The nation looks forward to the justice system,” Shehbaz said in a tweet.

In the alleged leaked audio clip that surfaced on Sunday, the former chief justice could be heard telling an unidentified man that “let me be a little blunt about it; unfortunately, here it is the ‘institutions’ that dictate judgments. In this case, we will have to penalise Mian Sahib [Nawaz Sharif].”

“And ‘they’ say ‘we shall bring Khan [Imran Khan] Sahib’. Regardless of the merit, we will have to do it, and even to his daughter [Maryam],” Nisar purportedly added.

“But, in my view, his daughter does not merit a sentence,” said the other unidentified person in the alleged leaked audio.

“You are absolutely correct. I did talk to ‘friends’ that something be done about this, but they did not agree. There will be no independence of the judiciary, so let it be,” the former purportedly responded to the man.

‘Book former CJP, his accomplices for treason’

PML-N Secretary Information Marriyum Aurangzeb said, “PML-N’s supremo Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz sentence has no legal or judicial grounds after the confession audio clip of the former CJP Saqib Nisar.”

Aurangzeb claimed that Nawaz and Maryam had been vindicated. “The God Almighty has his ways of always ensuring that truth prevails, and that is exactly, what has happened,” she added.

“In the light of these revelations, the former CJP and all those involved in this great conspiracy must be booked under treason,” she demanded while saying that it would be the biggest test case for the justice system in Pakistan.

The PML-N spokesperson also claimed that a US-based firm had certified the authenticity of former CJP’s alleged leaked audio conversation. “This is Saqib Nisar’s voice,” she added.

Nisar, on the other hand on Monday, termed the alleged leaked audio clip, in which he purportedly passed instructions to sentence Nawaz and Maryam as “fabricated”.

“I have just heard the audio. It is fabricated audio,” said Nisar in his statement on Monday.
